Keeper of the Moon

My Rating: 3 out of 5

In their new Keeper roles, these extraordinary women must balance the fate of the world with their desires.

Lust. Elven Keeper Sailor Gryffald's body quivers with it, but is it a symptom of the deadly Scarlet Pathogen coursing through her bloodstream or the proximity of shifter Keeper Declan Wainwright?

Sailor and Declan have had an uneasy relationship ever since they met, and now things are about to get a lot more complicated. A killer is stalking Los Angeles, intentionally infecting Elven with the deadly virus, and now Sailor and Declan must work to keep the supernatural peace while bringing the murderer to justice. But, in doing so, these powerful denizens of the Otherworld find themselves straddling a fine line between lust…and love.

Keeper of the Moon is the second in the The Keepers: LA trilogy by Heather Graham, Alexandra Sokoloff, and Harley Jane Kozak following the three Gryffald cousins who are the new Vampire, Elven, and Shape-Shifter Keepers in L.A. A Keeper is a human, born into the position and with the ability to draw upon the powers of their charges, and charged with the oversight and protection of a particular faction of the Others.

Keeper of the Moon centers on Sailor Ann Gryffald, an aspiring actress and the new Elven Keeper of Laurel Canyon, and Declan Wainwright, a Shifter Keeper and popular nightclub owner. Sailor is attacked and infected with the Scarlet Pathogen linking her to the suspicious deaths of several Elven that Declan is already investigating. The duo team up to uncover the origins of the pathogen, what makes Sailor's reactions to it so unusual and who is killing the Elven.

The story focuses more on the mystery of the pathogen and hunt for the killer than the romance between Declan and Sailor. While I found myself wishing the couple would have spent a little more time together, I was impressed with the way Kozak portrayed Sailor's growth from a vapid, aspiring actress to a Keeper that could be depended on to keep her charges safe. Each of The Keepers: LA trilogy could be read as a stand-alone book, but I think you find them more enjoyable if they were read all together. I'm looking forward to seeing how Alexandra Sokoloff ends the series in Keeper of the Shadows (May 2013).

    1. I like that it's written by three different authors; one for each book/couple and as a whole it tells the entire story arc.
